Watching Doctor Who, J.R. Sotuhall’s Doctor Who column in Starburst Magazine 392, examined the show’s use of the Doctor’s trusty sonic screwdriver.

I can’t remember whether it was my idea or J.R’s, but I was immediately drawn to the idea of the first Doctor wielding his own sonic screwdriver – something that didn’t happen in the series until the days of Patrick Troughton…but, I can’t resist anything that might fire up the anger of a certain breed of purist fan. Besides, I think Mr Hartnell looks rather dashing with his own flashy-pointy-thing.
